Hexapod explorer - Ugears wooden mechanical spider robot

Your cat may hate us! Have you always dreamed of owning the coolest insect model? We present the Hexapod Explorer by Ugears: a third insect, a third robot, a third alien rover, and 100% fun! Powered by a powerful spring-loaded motor, the Hexapod Explorer can travel up to 3 meters on its own legs, without the need for an auxiliary wheel or support like other equivalent models. Able to carry its own weight on its own legs, the Hexapod Explorer can move over slightly rugged terrain, like a planetary rover that would come out of its capsule to explore new planets. The Hexapod Explorer features a variable speed dial, another outstanding feature that makes our hexapod unique. Your robot-insect will be able to crawl, move on all fours or hop at the speed of your choice! As soon as the Hexapod stops working, lift it up and watch the legs come alive and agitate, like a real insect, like a spider, or even a crab. This model is both a real nightmare of arachnophobe or a dream come true for mechanical model enthusiast!

This self-assembling Hexapod Explorer is part of the amazing family of mechanics, automatons, 3D puzzles and wooden mechanical wonders offered by Ugears. The walking robot we have created is entirely mechanical, made of wood, without any electronic components. We are convinced that each of our products must be elegant, in every sense of the word: simple, ingenious and pleasing to the eye. As Dutch sculptor Theo Jansen put it, "the barriers between art and engineering exist only in our minds." We are committed to astonishing and delighting our growing customer base, spread across 85 countries on five continents, by offering them creations never seen elsewhere!

We are fortunate to live in an exciting time marked by space exploration and rapid technological advances. It was in 1969 that humanity took its first steps on the Moon, taken by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin aboard Apollo 11. Since 1997 until today, six different rovers have explored Mars. Let's say you're the commander of a planet X exploration mission. A robot can only take photos and samples throughout its solo exploration. But imagine that your spaceship unleashes a robotic army of hexapod explorers capable of crisscrossing the surface of the new planet in all directions, probing the ground, taking rock samples and trying to find alien life forms! At night, hexapods rest, and day by day, they recharge and come to life, continuing their explorations and scientific research. Maybe a ship from another civilization on another planet will arrive, see the hexapods and think that this is the dominant life form on Planet X!

The hexapod Explorer wood-to-assemble model features 388 pieces and has a powerful metal spring that allows the robot to move, as well as rubber pads for better grip on smooth surfaces. This self-assembly model is classified as "Medium" with an estimated assembly time of 8 hours. The internal spring is wound with a ratchet wrench located on the belly. Thanks to this ratchet mechanism, there is no need to hold the key during winding in order to prevent slippage - the potential energy is stored with each rotation until the spring is fully stretched. The Hexapod Explorer can overcome rugged surfaces and even straddle obstacles of 1 to 2 cm. Reassemble the model, put it down, select the desired walking speed using the dial on the head of the Hexapod, then release the "Go" switch on the back to set the model in motion. It is possible to change gears at any time, and even when the hexapod is moving.

We often draw our inspiration from nature. Hexapods, the subphylum that includes insects, are the most diverse and widespread life form on Earth, and make up half of all known species. The three pairs of articulated legs provide great stability and allow to cross all kinds of terrain, which partly explains why insects have managed to colonize almost every square meter of our planet. In our opinion, our hexapod looks more like a beetle. Did you know that there are more than 400,000 different species of beetles, making them the most diverse order known in science, with 25% of all known animal life forms? According to the British evolutionary biologist J.B.S. Haldane, if there is indeed a God, the Creator seems to have "an immoderate penchant for beetles." In any case, we love our hexapod!

Let's be honest, this six-legged beetle with a resistant shell is a great design, just like the Hexapod Explorer by Ugears. In fact, the Hexapod's movements are so realistic that you might be tempted to play a trick on an unsuspecting friend by asking him to lift your Hexapod at rest but partially reassembled (in high-speed mode to scare him even more!). Our advice: don't try! Unless you want to pick up the pieces after your friend drops your Hexapod Explorer on the ground or throws it against the nearest wall, after getting scared. The same goes for cats: felines and Hexapods do not necessarily mix, so do not put them together in the same room! Unless you think eight hours of building is worth having a viral video of your cat leaping on your Hexapod Explorer by Ugears and fighting on it! It's up to you!

Looking for Halloween toys or decorations that are both cool and scary? Do you have a child, niece or nephew, or loved one who is interested in robotics? Kids and adults alike will love assembling the Hexapod Explorer and seeing it come to life when it takes its first steps. Building Ugears models is a great way to discover the basics of science and engineering, including the basics of biology, such as how animals move. We love bringing family members together around Ugears projects. Parents and kids spend time assembling a great mechanical toy like the Hexapod Explorer. They experience the satisfaction of achieving something together, and then the joy of playing with it. Assembling our models is also a great way to develop mechanical skills, learn how to solve problems and know how to follow detailed and illustrated instructions (a very useful skill, for both children and adults).

The Hexapod Explorer Ugears is an original gift idea for friends or family members who love nature, insects, robots, model making, handicrafts, puzzles, or simply for anyone who is not insensitive to beautiful, well-designed mechanical things.
