We present the Drift Cobra race car, a two-seater convertible with elegant lines, inspired by the most famous sports car of all time: the Shelby Cobra 427. The Cobra 427, produced between 1965 and 1967, was equipped with a 7.0-liter engine developing 450 to 510 horsepower. It reached 0 to 100 km/h in just over 4 seconds and its maximum speed was 260 km/h.

A bit of history. Carroll Shelby, a former racing driver and car designer, was hired by Ford Motor Co. to create a high-performance race car capable of competing with the famous and hitherto unbeatable Italian Ferrari team. The Americans' four consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1966 and 1969, at the wheel of the Ford GT40, have entered the legend of automotive history. More recently, this car starred in the 2019 Oscar-winning film Le Mans 66, starring Matt Damon as Shelby and Christian Bale as Ken Miles, the ace at the wheel of the Ford team in 1966. The success of the cars that came out of Shelby's workshop in Venice, California, was the starting point for a series of crazy-performing American supercars or muscle cars with powerful V8 engines placed in relatively light, mass-produced and rear-wheel drive chassis. The Shelby Cobra is a true American icon, and perhaps even the most well-known sports car.

Designed for drag racing while being allowed to ride on public roads, muscle cars offer incredible automotive power at a relatively affordable price. The fact that some of these classic cars are rare and reach stratospheric prices in auction rooms is largely due to their rarity: many were indeed accidents caused by inexperienced drivers. These cars also competed in illegal races, where very often the stake of the race was the car itself... Thus, many vehicles have changed ownership after a lost race.

With that in mind, why not gather your model friends, show off your newly built Ugears Drift Cobra Racing wooden cars, and race too! Driven by a powerful spring-loaded engine, the Ugears Drift Cobra race car houses a real little bomb under its hood, making it the fastest mechanical wooden model we know. The model is wound using a ratchet button located under the chassis. Before reassembling your Drift Cobra in a scale model, move the air filter that protrudes from the hood to the windshield and tilt the switch in front of the passenger seat in the locking position (parallel to the door). Then rotate the ratchet under the body of the wooden car. After 6 to 6.5 rotations of the button, the spring is fully stretched, and your car is ready to roar! Place the gear lever, located between the driver's and passenger's seats in the desired position (reverse, neutral, driving). To start the model, put it on a horizontal surface, slide the air filter forward and watch your Cobra turn the wheel (start with the wheels turned to one side), make circles or drive in a straight line.

For us, this self-assembly 3D puzzle is a real little wonder, with its wide tires, curved lines (thanks to precisely laser cut pieces from 1mm plywood), roaring grille and innate elegance. This wooden car includes turnable front wheels, doors that open, as well as a hood and trunk that can be raised. Instead of a traditional elastic motor, we opted for a powerful spring-loaded mechanism that gives power to this car and also has the advantage of extending the life of the model. The ratchet mechanism saves you from having to hold the button for the duration of the winding - the potential energy is stored with each rotation, without slipping, until the powerful internal spring is completely stretched.

put the model in "drift" mode, turn the front wheels completely to one side or another, put the car on a smooth surface (such as tiles, for example): the model will skid on the side (ideally, your model should make a U-turn or a full turn before continuing to move forward, depending on the driving surface and the angle of rotation of the wheels). When the wheels are straight, the model can drive even further, up to more than 8 meters! Turn the wheels slightly, or put the car on a less smooth surface, and watch your Drift Cobra complete two or three full laps.

The self-assembled Drift Cobra race car includes 370 parts, the assembly time is estimated at nine hours. This is an Advanced model.
