Model Vehicle DUKW 21/2 GMC amphibious truck in 1/35 scale from Italeri reference 6392.

The American General Motor CCKW-353 21/2t 6x6 amphibious transport truck was designed to meet the logistical needs of the U.S. Army landing forces, especially for the rapid transfer of loads and personnel between ships and beaches. The mechanical basis of the vehicle was the same as that of the GMC road truck, with its 4,400cc 6-cylinder engine, three differentials and six-wheel drive. The DUKW was characterized by a welded hull reinforced by horizontal ribs that allowed it to operate in deep water. Its main attribute was its extraordinary versatility and load capacity, up to 2,400kg or 25 fully equipped soldiers. The DUKWs were widely deployed in all theaters of the 2nd G.M. by the U.S. Army and Marines. They took part in many important landings in Normandy, Utah and Omaha, of course, but also in Salerno, Anzio and the Pacific.
