Queen Mary 2 1/600 Heller + glue and paints

In May 1998, the executives of Carnival Cruises, the world's leading cruise line, asked naval architect Stephen Payne to think about the design of a giant transatlantic company, equipped with completely new facilities and intended to replace, within the fleet of their subsidiary Cunard, the famous Queen Elizabeth 2. Very quickly, Stephen Payne, passionate about the great liners of the 1930s, defined the general line of this exceptional ship, simply the largest liner in the world with its 345 meters long, 41 meters wide and 72 meters high (the equivalent of 23 floors). The architect removes the best aspects of the past and translates them into the present: the breakwater of the front beach is inherited from the very elegant one of Normandy. The façade is very inspired by that, in the form of stairs, of the original Queen Mary. But the "steps" gave way to a gentle slope. Queen Mary was equipped with open bridge fins: they are taken back but closed to better cope with bad weather in the North Atlantic. QM2 borrows its wheelhouse and the general line of its chimney from Queen Elizabeth 2. However, the new Cunarder is indeed a twenty-first century boat that combines both the advantages of a cruise ship and those of a liner.
