The French aircraft Blériot XI was the most emblematic single-seater of the era of aviation pioneers. It became famous on July 25, 1909, when Louis Blériot successfully crossed the English Channel between Calais and Dover in 36 minutes and 30 seconds.
Designed by Louis Blériot and Raymond Saulnier, the Blériot XI was a lightweight and thin monoplane made of oak and poplar wood. His wings were covered in fabric. Despite its simplicity, the 25 hp Anzani 3-cylinder engine guaranteed constant operation.
The sporty exploits, the qualities of robustness, functionality and ease of flying made the success of this aircraft. It was on this type of aircraft that Captain Piazza carried out the first war actions in aviation history, between 1911 and 1912, during the Libyan campaign.
