Charles Darwin, wrote a travel diary aboard the HMS Beagle, in the ship's second expedition.
The HMS Beagle was one of the most famous ships of its time for various reasons. The most famous of them were undoubtedly his naturalistic research journey, commanded by Commander Robert FitzRoy with the young Darwin on board.
Launched in the Thames on 11 May 1820, it was built by the Wollwich shipyards.
In July of the same year, as part of the celebrations of the coronation of King George IV, it was the first ship to sail under the new London Bridge.
In total, the HMS Beagle made three excellent trips. It was only on his second trip, when Darwin embarked. Darwin spent three years and three months on land and eighteen months at sea.
