The Opel Blitz was designed with the aim of producing, on a large scale, a robust and reliable commercial vehicle that can be used for various applications and uses. At the beginning of the 1930s, Opel began producing the first trucks at its plant in Rüsselsheim, with a typically American-inspired design. Thus began a long history that evolved over time until the mid-1970s. The Opel Blitz was widely used by German forces during World War II, both in 4x2 and 4x4 versions. Its notoriety was however consolidated by its great commercial success in civilian uses. After the war, the Opel Blitz made a significant contribution to the reconstruction of Germany. For this purpose, many versions have been developed and produced, including firefighting versions.
