In 1827 the French engineer Onésiphore Pecqueur invented the differential. In the 1930s of the 20th century, German automotive engineer Ferdinand Porsche made significant improvements to the aircraft.
Cars use differentials as part of the transmission mechanism. They improve the handling and performance of a car.
Our Differential serves as a learning tool rather than a puzzle. Indeed, just like other Ugears models, assembling STEM models is fun and complete: everything you need to build, learn and discover comes in a box.
The Ugears Differential comes with step-by-step, colour instructions that are really easy to follow (in several languages including French). In particular, it does not require any glue or special tools to be fully assembled.
How the STEM Ugears Differential Works
The Differential is a stylized pedagogical model, an interactive study guide to the mechanism. Indeed, it is designed to learn its essential principles and its principles of operation. The differential is designed to ensure that the drive wheels on the same axle run at a different rate. They therefore cover different distances at the same time. This mechanism allows the car to make turns without the wheels skidding. It prevents wheel skating, and reduces tire wear. This makes it easier for the driver to enter and exit corners.
After assembling the Differential, you can unlock it by pushing the lever in position 1 (top) and move the two wheels by spinning the drive gable or wheel. The control lever regulates the smooth locking of the left and right wheels independently by turning left or right respectively. A rigid mating binds the two wheels when the lever is in a "lowered" position. They can either spin together (propelled by the drive gable or a wheel), or hang simultaneously (by the wheel lever).
Technical info
High-quality wood from sustainable sources is the kit of the STEM Differential. It also contains everything you might need for assembly. In addition, we use a laser method to cut parts from a plywood board and provide precise cuts. Remove the pieces from the boards and assemble them to create the complete model.
