Built for the Universal Exhibition that was to celebrate the centenary of the French Revolution, the Eiffel Tower was born in 1889. Its construction lasted 2 years, from July 1, 1887 to March 31, 1889 (raising the flag at the top). From its inauguration its success is phenomenal, and two million people make the ascent. The life of the Eiffel Tower was not to exceed 20 years. It has changed color several times, from red-brown to yellow ochre, then to brown and finally to bronze. It takes 25 painters a year to paint it completely.
