The Sd.Kfz. 138 Marder III tank destroyer was developed for the German Army on the basis of the now obsolete but available light tank chassis, Panzer 38(t) of Czechoslovak production. The modification involved the adoption, in an open structure protected by a shield with inclined plates of the effective 75mm anti-tank gun. PaK 40. The Marder III Ausf. H had the engine installed in the rear part and the main armament in the central position to ensure greater protection for the crew. With this configuration, the Wehrmacht could have a machine that was easy to produce and had great firepower effective against the main tanks of the time. It went into production in 1942 for the russian front and was used on all fronts until the end of the war.
