In 1938, the White Motor Company began the design and development of the M3 to equip the U.S. Army with an armored reconnaissance vehicle. Equipped with a 6-cylinder Hercules JXD gasoline engine of 110hp, this machine reached a maximum speed of 81km / h. Equipped with four-wheel drive, it was used for patrol, reconnaissance and command post missions. This vehicle for up to 8 men was equipped with a 12.7mm Browning M2 machine gun and two other 7.7mm Browning machine guns on the sides. It was first used during the Battle of the Philippines in 1941 and also operated in North Africa and Sicily. Subsequently, it was replaced by the M8 Greyhound for distant exploration missions.
