Tamiya is pleased to announce the re-edition of the 1/20 scale kit of the Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr. 5 (originally marketed under the ref. 20009 in 1978; non-motorized this time) with new Cartograf decals, new slick tires and a multilingual instruction manual including French. The Toyota Celica LB Turbo was a Group 5 car developed for the 1977 German DRM Championship. Based on the standard Celica Liftback, the car featured aerodynamic elements such as protruding fenders and a rear spoiler, and many of the significantly modified body panels were made of fiber. The 2,090cc turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine with double overhead camshaft developed 560 horsepower. After making its debut in July 1977, the Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 beat the Porsche 935 and took its first victory the following October.
