Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo 1978 1/24 model kit - Tamiya 24376
A static model kit to assemble and paint of the 1978 Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo at 1/24 scale. The Tamiya reference 24376 reproduces this spectacular DRM car with a detailed cockpit, roll cage, slick tires, aerodynamic discs, Cartograf decals and a driver figure.
The Tamiya 24376 Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo 1978 is a 1/24 scale static model car kit that requires assembly and painting. It reproduces one of the most iconic silhouettes of the German DRM championship of the late 1970s: a Ford Capri extensively modified by Zakspeed for competition. With its extremely low nose, wide fenders, and imposing race car stance, this kit is aimed at enthusiasts of model racing cars, spectacular touring cars, and historic Ford automobiles.
This updated reissue of Tamiya kit 24014, originally released in 1979 in a motorized version, features Cartograf decals , revised assembly instructions, and updated packaging. The completed model measures 210 mm long, 86 mm wide, and 51 mm high.
The Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo in DRM
The Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo was entered in the DRM, the German Touring Car Championship. This series then comprised separate categories based on engine displacement. Facing competition from cars like the BMW 320 Turbo, the Capri prepared by Zakspeed stood out with its radically widened body and very low front end, two elements that emphasized its decidedly competition-oriented nature.
The car made its debut at the eighth DRM race at Hockenheim in the summer of 1978. Its black livery, enlivened with red and yellow accents, is a key element of its visual identity. Regularly competing at the front of the pack, it secured its first victory at the spring race at the Nürburgring in October 1978. In 1979, it finished second in the opening DRM race at Zolder, before winning the second race at Hockenheim.
A faithful reproduction of an enlarged racing Capri
The Tamiya model kit emphasizes the characteristic lines of this Ford racing car. The particularly low nose and wide body silhouette are meticulously reproduced to capture the aggressive profile of the Zakspeed Capri Turbo. This 1/24 scale model allows you to appreciate the very specific proportions of a car designed for top-level German touring car racing.
The cockpit is reproduced with a high level of realism and incorporates a roll cage , an iconic feature of a racing car. The interior thus represents an important area of the model for modelers wishing to work on interior details and painting.
The wheels are equipped with aerodynamic discs and fitted with synthetic rubber slick tires . Slicks are racing tires without tread patterns, designed to maximize the contact patch on dry surfaces. Combined with the aerodynamic elements of the wheels, they enhance the racing character of this replica.
Decoration and finishing
The kit includes high-quality Cartograf decals for decorating the 1978 Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo. Decals play a crucial role on a model racing car: they allow you to reproduce the markings and graphic motifs that give the model its historical identity. A driver figure is also included to complete the cockpit display.
Like any static model kit, this Tamiya Ford Capri allows the modeler to personalize the level of finish, from a simple assembly to a more elaborate presentation with attention to detail, color, and decoration. Once completed, it makes a choice addition to a collection dedicated to 1970s racing cars, DRM, Ford, or grand touring cars.
