The famous German Junkers Stuka dive bomber entered series production in December 1939.Pour For use in specific conditions, factory modification kits, or Umrüstbausätze in German, were produced. These kits were numbered, and the fourth, U4, consisted of skis to be fitted to the main and tail landing gear in place of the wheels. The Stuka 8B-2 equipped with these skis could take off and land on snow-covered airfields without sinking into the fresh snow.
