Model Macchi MC.200 Saetta in scale 1/48 of Italeri reference 2815.
Designed by the famous engineer Mario Castoldi, the Macchi MC200 marked a radical evolution of Italian fighter aircraft. Compared to the Fiat CR32 and CR42 biplanes that mainly equipped the fighter squadrons of the Italian Air Force (Regia Aeronautica) at the beginning of the 2nd G.M., the Macchi MC200 stood out, like the Fiat G50 of the time, by its monoplane configuration and all-metal structure. The 14-cylinder twin-star fiat A.74 RC 38 engine developing 840hp allowed it to reach 500km/h. Compared to Allied fighters, it was underpowered and had insufficient firepower. The two Breda-SAFAT 12.7mm hooded machine guns were the only internal armament. On the latest versions produced, two additional machine guns - 7.7mm Breda-SAFAT, were mounted in the wings. The MC200 was used by the Regia Aeronautica on various fronts of the 2nd G.M., in Africa, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and Russia.
