Fokker DR.1 Tri-Plan - Model Airways
Static model that cannot fly.
Wood and Metal kit of an exceptional aircraft reproduced in 1:16 scale. This replica takes virtually all the details of the original Fokker Dr. 1.
We reproduced this famous First World War fighter in a 1:16 scale kit. This model is composed of laser-cut linden and birch plywood, precise tin castings, brass, copper, aluminum, steel and rubber.
The most interesting feature of the Model Airways Fokker Dr.1 kit is its open structure. Normally hidden under layers of fabric or canvas, we leave laser-cut wooden ribs and cast metal frames uncovered to show the subtleties of construction. You'll find cast metal fuselage bulkheads, wing ribs and pilot seats, linden fuselage spars, and wing rib caps. The cockpit is reproduced in every detail, with tachometer, gauges and compass.
An authentic 9-cylinder Oberursel UP II rotary engine, consisting of more than 33 pieces of tin, is a marvel of design, with carburetor, oil pump, spark plugs and valve springs.
Model Airways' Fokker Dr.1 is sure to impress any model maker looking for superior detail, unparalleled authenticity and uncompromising material quality. Six sheets of quality plans and an illustrated 54-page instruction manual pave the way for a museum-quality masterpiece. Kit design, plans, instructions and prototype model by Dr. David Ullman
BRIEF HISTORY: The Fokker Dr.1, Tri-Plan was the favorite aircraft of Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, who is credited with 80 victories before being shot down and killed. He flew it from September 1917 until his death in April 1918. Built by Dutch aircraft designer Anthony Fokker, the Dr.1 was powered by the 9-cylinder Oberursel UR II rotary engine. It could climb to 3000 feet in less than 3 minutes and had a ceiling of 19,000 feet. It had a high roll rate and was difficult to fly. Only the best pilots could master it, but many of them lost their lives.
