Model aircraft MiG-23BN/27D Flogger in 1/48 scale of Italeri reference 2817.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-27 variable geometry wing fighter-bomber (Flogger D in NATO code) was developed by the Soviet aviation industry from the structure of the Mig-23 fighter, in order to make it more suitable for effective ground attack and close support missions. The aerodynamic layout is actually that of the Mig-23 fighter, from which it differs in the new configuration of the nose. In order to better fulfill the new role assigned to the aircraft, the on-board avionics was revised by the installation of a radar for detecting, acquiring and aiming ground targets and adopting new electronic countermeasures systems. The offensive armament was revised with the adoption of a new 6-tube 30 mm gun, more powerful than that installed on the Mig-23, and the increase in the load of air-to-ground missiles, bombs and rockets that it could carry, which could then exceed 4000 kg.
