Model aircraft Spitfire Mk. IX in scale 1/48 of Italeri reference 2804.
The Supermarine Spitfire is considered one of the most famous fighter jets in aviation history and an "icon" of British aircraft production. This well-armed single-engine low-wing aircraft formed, together with the Hawker Hurricane, the backbone of the Royal Air Force against the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire's success in this battle helped cement its status as an iconic aircraft. It was characterized by its elliptical wings and powerful Rolls Royce Merlin engine. To counter the Focke Wulf Fw 190, the Spitfire has constantly evolved in its aerodynamic configuration and engine. The Spitfire Mk. IX was able to compete on equal terms with the most advanced German fighters of the time and was produced in sufficient numbers to meet operational needs.
In addition to the RAF, it was used by many air forces during and after the 2nd G.M. including Israel and the France.
