Magnificent F-5A Freedom Fighter aircraft in 1/72 scale from Italeri reference 1441.
During the 1950s, the American company Northrop set out to develop a simple and inexpensive fighter, which could equip NATO countries. The resulting F-5 was a lightweight, compact but extremely maneuverable single-seater. Easy to produce and relatively inexpensive, it was characterized by high operational efficiency. The first versions produced by Northrop, called F-5A "Freedom Fighter" were capable of reaching a maximum speed of 1,700km/h thanks to two General Electric J85-GE-13 engines. He was armed with two 20mm cannons installed in the nose. The F-5 was a true "multi-role" aircraft as it could carry an offensive payload for air defense and ground attack missions. Its versatility ensured its rapid diffusion and use by many air forces.
