On 2 May 1961 the Pilatus PC-6A Turbo Porter flew for the first time, equipped with a 520 hp Turbomeca Astazou turboshaft engine. It will be further improved by the installation of a new turboshaft engine, the PT6A Pratt & Whitney Canada of 550 hp, giving birth to the PC-6B version. With nearly 600 devices built in six decades, Pilatus stopped production in 2019, proving once again that a machine of simple and enduring design can outlive many of its more sophisticated and advanced peers.
