was the first of many successful Anglo-French aeronautical projects since the 1960s. Both France and the United Kingdom were in dire need of a light, simple and inexpensive ground attack aircraft. The study of such an aircraft was entrusted to Breguet in France (which was to become Dassault-Breguet) and to the British Aircraft Corporation within SEPECAT (Société Européenne de Production de l'Avion d'Ecole de Combat et d'Appui Tactique).
