Developed jointly by France and the United Kingdom during the sixties, the Gazelle multipurpose light helicopter made its first flight in 1967. Produced in series from the early 1970s by Aérospatiale (France) in collaboration with Westland Helicopters (United Kingdom), it was declined in two main versions, SA 341 and SA 342. Most of its production was destined for military use. The SA 341 F, for the French Army, was the first to be equipped with HOT wire-guided missiles. The last military versions assembled were the SA 342 L1 with Astazou XIV turboshaft engine and the SA 342 M, again for the Army's Light Aviation.
