Focke Wulf Fw190 D-9 scale 1/72 scale model aircraft from Italeri reference 1312.
More than 20,000 units were produced from 1941 onwards, and the Focke Wulf Fw190 was one of the best combat aircraft of the Second World War. The first versions designated Fw190A were equipped with an air-cooled BMW 801 D-2 14-cylinder twin-star radial engine that allowed the top speed of 653 km/h (Fw190A-8). Towards the end of the conflict, the D (Dora) version appeared, the most radical evolution of the aircraft with the adoption of the powerful Junkers Jumo 213 12-cylinder in-line liquid-cooled engine. Its adaptation resulted in an elongation of the fuselage and in particular the nose, earning it the nickname "Langnasen-Dora" (Long-nosed Dora) by Luftwaffe pilots. They immediately appreciated its power and flying qualities. The Fw190D was indeed able to compete on equal terms with more modern Allied fighters such as the famous P-51D Mustang.
