The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program aimed to develop a new fifth-generation all-weather multi-role fighter capable of replacing the ground attack aircraft of the United States and NATO countries. The result was the single-seater Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, it is a stealth aircraft with a characteristic trapezoidal wing. Designed to carry out air superiority, close air support and ground attack missions, it is available in three versions. The F-35A operates from conventional runways, the F-35B is designed for short take-off and vertical landing while the F-35C is carrier-based. The latter is distinguished by its folding wingtips to save space on board, a landing hook and a reinforced nose gear adapted to the catapults of US Navy aircraft carriers.
