As a result of operations during the Korean War, Lockheed developed the light air superiority fighter, F-104 Starfighter, for the USAF. It has been optimized to achieve speeds and
high climbing performance. The first flight of this type of aircraft took place on March 4, 1954. In 1958, an F-104A reached 2,259.538 km/h, setting a speed record.
