Dornier built a single-engine liaison aircraft with STOL characteristics in Spain after World War II. It made its maiden flight as Dornier Do 25 on 25 June 1954 in Seville. The second prototype had a Continental engine. The landing gear had to be reinforced for a more powerful engine. In addition, the fuel tanks have been redesigned and the vertical tail has been enlarged. In Germany, the first Do 27 flew on October 17, 1956. More than 600 examples were manufactured in Germany in 1965. 428 examples were built for the German armed forces. In Spain, 50 examples were built by CASA with licenses included the Do 27A-1 under the designation C-127. In addition, Spain received an additional 26 Do 27 from the Bundeswehr's stocks.
