The Mirage 2000 Dassault-Breguet was chosen in December 1975 as the fighter aircraft of the future of the French Air Force, an aircraft that was to serve until and beyond the year 2000. The Mirage 2000 has retained the delta wing line adopted for the previous series of Mirage III/V, which was very successful, making it virtually unique among the current generations of high-tech fighter aircraft. Delta wings have major advantages but also disadvantages, and Dassault-Breguet has undertaken a lot of research to make such shapes more effective, in the Mirage 2000 this is done through the use of "fly-by-wire" computer controlled controls and technology, which allows any inherent peculiarity of unstable flight to be controlled over the entire range of its performance.
