Macchi MC.200 Saetta 1/32 aircraft model - Italeri 2516

The Italeri 2516 Macchi MC.200 Saetta 1/32 scale model reproduces one of the most iconic fighters of the Regia Aeronautica during World War II. Designed for experienced modelers, this Skill 5 level kit uses new molds and emphasizes fine detail, moving surfaces, and display possibilities.

Once assembled, the model measures 25.8 cm . It constitutes a particularly interesting base for creating an Italian fighter engaged in the theaters of operations in North Africa, the Mediterranean, the Balkans or the Eastern Front.

The real Macchi MC.200 Saetta

Designed by engineer Mario Castoldi, the Macchi MC.200 Saetta marked a significant step in the evolution of the Italian fighter. While the Fiat CR.32 and CR.42 biplanes still equipped some Italian units at the beginning of the conflict, the Saetta adopted a monoplane fighter design with an all-metal structure, just like its contemporary, the Fiat G.50.

The aircraft was powered by a Fiat A.74 RC.38 14-cylinder twin-row radial engine. Its silhouette is particularly recognizable by its domed engine cowling and two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns mounted above the engine. Some later versions also received two 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns in the wings. The MC.200 was used by the Regia Aeronautica on the main fronts where Italy was engaged during World War II.

A detailed reproduction at 1/32 scale

Italeri has recreated the Macchi MC.200 with engraved panel lines and rivets, suitable for careful painting and weathering techniques. The finely detailed cockpit features 3D decals , adding depth to the instruments and interior elements.

The kit also includes a reproduction of the engine and the front machine gun compartment. These elements enhance the Saetta's distinctive front end. The landing gear bays are detailed, and the corresponding hatches can be used depending on the chosen display.

Photo-etched parts are provided for the engine, cockpit, flaps, and various general details. These allow for the addition of fine details to the most visible areas of the model. A masking sheet is included for the canopy and tires to facilitate painting these parts.

Presentation configurations

The moving parts of the wings and tail assembly are reproduced. The flaps can be assembled in the open or closed position, allowing the aircraft to be depicted at rest or in a more dynamic configuration. These options make the model particularly suitable for display on a base, in a showcase, or in a diorama dedicated to Italian aviation of the Second World War.

The decal sheet allows for six different versions . A color guide accompanies the instructions for painting and applying the markings. The colors suggested by Italeri include Italian camouflage colors, such as Giallo Mimetico 4, Marrone Mimetico, and Verde Mimetico 2, as well as the colors needed for mechanical details, the cockpit, and markings.
