The Heller 82391 Super Constellation TWA 1/72 is a plastic model kit dedicated to one of the great American post-war airliners: the Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation, reproduced here in the livery of Trans World Airlines, better known as TWA. This 1/72 civil airliner model is an ideal subject for fans of propliners, historical commercial aviation, and American airline liveries.
The L-1049 Super Constellation is derived from the L-749 Constellation. Its development resulted in a significant fuselage stretch, with added fuselage sections that increased the aircraft’s length by 5.59 m on the real plane. The airframe was also strengthened, while rectangular windows, increased fuel capacity, and re-engining distinguish this evolution within the Constellation family. The first L-1049 entered service on December 15, 1951 with Eastern Air Lines.
Nicknamed “Super-Connie”, the Super Constellation is instantly recognizable thanks to its sleek fuselage, four piston engines driving propellers, and its distinctive triple tail fin. TWA and Eastern Air Lines operated the largest Super Constellation fleets, making this aircraft an iconic figure in 1950s civil air transport.
This Heller reference lets you depict a TWA Super Constellation at a large scale. The kit includes 97 parts and offers 5 decals in TWA colors. The 1/72 scale particularly highlights the aircraft’s elegant lines and provides a format well suited to a display in a collection, on an airport base, or in a diorama dedicated to the golden age of commercial aviation.
Building a civil airliner model requires special attention to fuselage assembly, the alignment of the wings, tailplanes, and the four propulsion groups. Preparing the seams and carefully applying the markings help achieve the final look of a civil aircraft, where metallic surfaces, fuselage stripes, and airline decals play an essential role.
Once completed, the model measures 472 mm in length with a 520 mm wingspan. These dimensions make it a standout piece in any 1/72 civil model collection.
