Aircraft model Macchi MC.202 Folgore 1/48 - Italeri 2840

The Italeri 2840 Macchi MC.202 Folgore 1/48 aircraft model kit recreates one of the most representative Italian fighters of World War II. Intended for experienced scale modelers, this level 5 kit highlights the very fine aerodynamic lines of the Folgore and offers a set of detailing parts suited to a careful build.

The Macchi MC.202 Folgore was a major evolution of the Macchi MC.200 for the fighter units of the Regia Aeronautica. Its streamlined fuselage was paired with a DB 601 inline engine built under license by the Italian aeronautical industry. Fast, maneuverable, rugged, and reliable, the MC.202 reached around 600 km/h and delivered a clear performance improvement over earlier Italian fighters equipped with radial engines. The first versions were armed with two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns mounted in the nose; armament was strengthened on later versions.

Operated across the various fronts where Italian military aviation took part during the conflict, the Folgore is an essential subject for any collection focused on the Regia Aeronautica, World War II fighters, or Mediterranean theater combat aircraft. Its distinctive camouflage and the finesse of its airframe also make it a particularly interesting base for painting and weathering work.
