The Gepard anti-aircraft battle tank (FlakPz Gepard) is a German-made autonomous anti-aircraft tank, highly mobile and capable of all-weather combat, which was developed and produced as early as the 1970s. For a long time, it was a cornerstone of the air defense of the Bundeswehr army. The Gepard was developed to provide the Bundeswehr's mobile tank and tank grenadier troops with protection against low-flying aircraft and helicopter gunships as part of tactical combined arms combat. The choice of armament also took into account the fight against heavily armored combat helicopters such as the Mil Mi-24 "Hind", whose armor offered effective protection against projectiles up to 23 mm caliber. When fighting ground targets, such as tanks or rolling vehicles, acquisition and tracking was done visually via one of the commander's periscopes or executive gunner. On the other hand, due to the relatively large caliber of its guns, superior to that of most armoured infantry fighting vehicles, it could easily destroy lightly armored vehicles such as armoured infantry fighting vehicles, transport tanks or other anti-aircraft vehicles.
