1/35 scale model of the Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Elefant tank by Italeri, reference 211.
The Elefant heavy tank destroyer was developed during World War II for the Wehrmacht's anti-tank units. The first production examples were based on the VK 45.01 (P) chassis and named "Ferdinand" in honor of the renowned engineer Ferdinand Porsche. Heavily armored and armed with the powerful 88mm gun, they made their debut at the Battle of Kursk, the largest tank battle in history. However, the vehicle had limited mobility and speed, and was unreliable, which hampered its performance at Kursk. The Ferdinands still operational at the end of 1943 were converted with improvements and modifications under the definitive name Elefant.
