there "Jupiter"front page 4-4-0 American locomotive, is of great historical importance because of the role it played in the construction of the first transcontinental railway in the United States.
Owned by the Central Pacific Railroad, it was built in September 1868 by the Schenectady Workshops in New York along with three others. Locomotives Storm, Leviatan and Whirlwindel.
there "Jupiter" weighed 65,400 pounds, had 60-inch drive wheels and 16x24-inch cylinders. It used wood as fuel and generated a pulling force of 10,790 pounds.
Currently, an exact replica of the Jupiter locomotive, is located in the Golden Spike National, at Promontory Summit, Utah. It is famous for being considered the place where you filled the first transcontinental railway in the United States.
