You will discover a jewel of the rail modelling with our kit models which will allow you to have a good time and create a mock-up of the cable trams still circulating, in the streets of San Francisco.

"The cable trams are a true symbol of the city of San Francisco. The first tram of its kind was put into service in London. It was on August 2, 1873 that Andrew Smith Hallidie tried the first cable tram clay Street in San Francisco. One hundred and thirty-six years later, these Vehicles continue to roam the streets of the city and are an integral part of local daily life.

The system rests on a cable that is towed at a constant speed by a stationary engine along the route. The Tram starts when a fastening device called adhesion is connected to the pressure cable. The release of this pressure added to the action of the brakes causes the vehicle to stop.

There are currently two fleets of cable trams in service. This is part of the Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason fleet. The other fleet is California Street, which includes the No. 60 streetcar that we reproduce in our model. It was manufactured in 1998 by the San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) and entered service in 2002.

This vehicle is based on the original model built in 1906 by John Hammond - Company for the California Street Cable Railroad Company. After the earthquake and fire of April 1906, it was again manufactured in the renovated Hammond workshops under No. 16 before being awarded No. 60 by MUNI in 1957. A new version retaining the original roof and seats was created in 1968-69 in the muni Elkton workshops."

You will see that you will gradually be able to reproduce a Comp including all the details of the original model. We invite you to let yourself be captivated and create creative leisure spaces in which this wonderful model of the San Francisco cable car will give you a lot of fun.
