The Traxxas TRX-4 Crawler Kit Clipless 82216-4 is a build-your-own electric 4x4 RC crawler chassis designed for enthusiasts who want to assemble a realistic scale crawling vehicle at 1/10 scale. This version features the Clipless body-mounting system, intended for TRX-4 compatible bodies with a 312 mm wheelbase. The kit is delivered without a body shell, giving you plenty of freedom to choose the finish and build theme.
The TRX-4 is based on a modern crawler platform: a steel-rail chassis, rigid axles, and a full-time 4-wheel drive drivetrain. This layout is suited to slow, technical crawling, where smooth low-speed control, gradual throttle response, and the ability to keep the wheels in contact with the ground are essential. Building the kit lets you discover the RC crawler’s mechanics in detail, from the axles to the drivetrain and suspension linkages.
Portal axles are one of the key features of the TRX-4 platform. Their principle is to place a reduction at the wheels, increasing ground clearance under the axle housings. This design helps limit contact with rocks, roots, and other obstacles encountered during RC trail runs. The Canyon Trail 1.9-inch tires with foam inserts complete the setup for trail and rock crawling use.
The Traxxas TRX-4 82216-4 chassis includes a two-speed transmission and front and rear differentials that can be locked remotely. The low gear is especially suited for technical sections and slow crawling, while the second gear allows faster travel on connecting stretches. Locking a differential ties the two wheels on the same axle together to improve traction when the terrain becomes uneven. These functions are an integral part of the TRX-4 crawling experience and are controlled from the radio transmitter.
The kit comes with a Titan 550 21-turn brushed motor, paired with a waterproof XL-5 HV speed controller compatible with 3S LiPo batteries. In RC modeling, the ESC controls acceleration, braking, and motor rotation direction. This electronics package is paired with a TQi 2.4 GHz Traxxas Link radio system, designed to drive the vehicle and its drivetrain functions. 2.4 GHz technology provides a modern radio link suitable for operating multiple RC models at the same time.
The suspension uses GTS shocks and steel suspension links. Together, they form a solid technical foundation for building a trail crawler, a scale vehicle, or a custom crawling project. Bumpers, wheel arches, and body accessories can be selected according to the body shell you choose. The Clipless mounting system provides a cleaner appearance, with no visible body clips on compatible models.
The Traxxas TRX-4 Crawler Kit is for modelers who want to actively participate in building and configuring their vehicle. Assembly requires an organized workspace and the use of appropriate modeling tools. Basic tools, high-performance grease, and silicone oil for the shocks are included. A cyanoacrylate glue for tires, four AA batteries, a propulsion battery pack equipped with a Traxxas High-Current connector, as well as a charger are required to finish and use the model.
The chassis supports a 6- or 7-cell NiMH pack, or a 2S or 3S LiPo battery pack. Your battery choice affects runtime and the crawler’s overall behavior, so using a suitable battery and charger is essential to enjoy the model under good conditions. The TRX-4 82216-4 is therefore a complete platform for building a custom Traxxas crawler, with a Clipless-compatible body shell and scale equipment selected to match your project.
