Built by the Ateliers et Chantiers de la Manche in Dieppe, and commissioned in April 1975, this ship is the second unit, after the "Noroît", of the "N.O.R.O.I.S." series. (Oceanographic Research, Observation and Support Vessels). The Suroît actively participated in the search for the wreck of the Titanic during the summer of 1985, thanks to the S.A.R (Towed Acoustic Sonar) a very sophisticated detection instrument.
