After the refusals of the kings of Portugal, England and France to finance his project, he turned to the crown of Spain who appointed him Admiral for the expedition which grouped three caravels: the SANTA MARIA, the NIÑA and the PINTA. After a journey of more than a month, Christopher Columbus discovered the Bahamas on October 12, 1492.
