Built by the Brest Arsenal from 1959 to 1961, the helicopter carrier Jeanne d'Arc was floated under the provisional name of La Résolue and received the name Jeanne d'Arc on July 16, 1964, the day of its commissioning. In peacetime, school building for the benefit of the School of Application of Naval Officers, the helicopter carrier Jeanne d'Arc was equipped with an air group including 2 Alouette III helicopters of the Naval Aeronautics, reinforced by a detachment of combat helicopters of the Light Aviation of the Army (ALAT) composed of 2 Puma or Cougar and 3 Gazelle helicopters, with a detachment of 40 men. In wartime, it was intended to conduct combat missions, either in the field of anti-submarine warfare by embarking 8 WG 13 Lynx helicopters, or as part of an external action mission by operating Puma or Gazelle helicopters of the ALAT, and transporting landing troops. In the summer of 2010, it will be disarmed at the Brest arsenal.
